The Jodhpur–Delhi run is the capital connection: roughly 475 km in the air, 620+ km by rail and road. Three ways to do it, and the right one depends entirely on how much your day is worth.
The three options
| Mode | Time | Typical cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flight | ~1.5 hrs in the air (direct) | Approx ₹2,900–5,500 and up (books earlier = cheaper) | Jodhpur (JDH) to Delhi; the day-saver (see the airport guide) |
| Train | ~10–12 hrs | Sleeper to AC classes, modest fares | Several daily services; overnight in the right direction saves a hotel night |
| Bus | ~10 hrs | ~₹700–1,500 sleeper (approx) | RSRTC and private operators, day and night coaches |
How to choose
Fly when the schedule fits — at an hour and a half, it converts a travel day into a travel morning, and the airport’s small size keeps the experience painless (our guide covers it). Take the overnight train when the budget leads or the romance calls — boarding Jodhpur at night, waking into North India’s plains, and arriving at the station instead of an airport (our station guide covers that arrival; the sleeper-class guide covers the bunk). The bus splits the difference on price with none of the train’s sleep quality — the fallback, not the pick.
Questions worth asking
Do flights run daily?
Jodhpur–Delhi is the airport’s anchor connection with the steadiest frequencies, but schedules shift seasonally — check the airline’s current timetable rather than trusting any printed list (ours included).
Is the overnight train worth it?
For the price of a budget hotel you get the transport and the morning arrival — the value case is real. Book AC classes (see the IRCTC guide for the foreigner’s booking path) and the value gets comfortable.
