📄 Image slot — an old city gateway with traffic passing through the arch.
Bikaner grew inside a walled line with gateways that still name the neighbourhoods (Kote Gate, Goga Gate, Suraj Gate among them)and enough of the fabric survives to read the city’s shape on foot.
The circuit
- What survives: the gates stand; long wall runs survive in fragments between houses, this is archaeology-in-use, not a monument walk.
- The reading: each gate faces a historic direction of trade, toward Jodhpur, toward the camel country, toward the pilgrim roads; the old-city walk covers the lanes inside.
- Timing: an hour in the early morning, camera for the arches and the street life flowing through them.
Caveat: signage is minimal, bring this guide; the reward is understanding why the bazaars sit where they do.
