The Jodhpur–Jaipur run is the workhorse route of Rajasthan: 340-odd km of highway between the Blue City and the Pink one, with three ways to do it. Unlike some routes in this state, all three are actually good here — which one suits you comes down to time, money, and how much you enjoy train windows.

The train is the sweet spot on this route

This is the opposite of the Jaisalmer route, where the bus wins. Here several daily trains connect the two capitals, the Mandor Express and the Ranakpur Express have run this line for years, alongside an intercity service, and at roughly five to seven hours with sleeper seats from about ₹200, the train usually beats the bus on both price and comfort. Book AC classes early in tourist season; they’re the first to fill.

Exact departure times shift with railway revisions, so we point you to IRCTC/NTES rather than printing numbers that go stale, a habit across all our route guides.

The bus

RSRTC and a crowd of private operators cover the highway all day, from basic seaters to AC sleepers at ₹400–1,200 depending on class. Journey time runs 5.5 to 7 hours. Choose the bus when trains are sold out (common around Diwali and in peak winter) or when the departure timing simply fits your day better.

The taxi

Sedans booked online start around ₹3,000 one-way, with street-booked operators anywhere up to ₹5,000 depending on your bargaining and the vehicle. For a family of four it’s competitive with four AC bus tickets, and it makes stops possible; Ajmer and Pushkar sit roughly on the way if you turn the transfer into a mini-road-trip.

Questions people ask before booking

Is the road or the rail faster?

They’re close, the best trains edge the best buses, and taxis land in between. Reliability is the real difference: trains run to a timetable, buses drift with traffic and meal stops.

Where do you arrive in each city?

Trains pull into Jaipur Junction, close to the old city; most interstate buses use Sindhi Camp, also central. Taxis drop you wherever you’re staying. All three land you reasonably close to the sights, unlike some metro arrivals.

Day or night journey?

Day, if it’s your first time, the highway crosses classic Rajasthani countryside and you arrive seeing the city. Night sleepers make sense on a repeat visit or a tight itinerary.
