📄 Image slot: amber fort history timeline with kachhwaha rulers and founding dates.
This timeline follows the Kachhwaha rulers of the Amber Fort, from 967 up to the founding of Jaipur.
The timeline
- 967: the Kachhwaha dynasty is established at Amber by Raja Alan Singh.
- 1592: Raja Man Singh I, Akbar’s general, begins the current fort structure.
- 1614-1727: the Mirza Raja Jai Singh expansions bring the palace hierarchy to its peak.
- In 1727 the capital moves to Jaipur, and Amber becomes a historical monument.
How to use the dates
- The 1592 starting point matters because Man Singh I built for an empire as much as a kingdom, and the fort’s scale reflects his rank as Akbar’s general.
The move to Jaipur in 1727 is the pivot of the whole timeline: Jai Singh II planned the new capital on the plain, and Amber’s role shifted from seat of power to ancestral monument, a status recognised later by the UNESCO Hill Forts of Rajasthan listing. Walking the fort with these four dates in mind is enough; the courtyards themselves are arranged in the same order as the centuries.
