Ramgarh Shekhawati is the region’s planned town, laid out deliberately in the late eighteenth century by settler merchant families on a straight grid, unlike the organically grown bazaar towns around it.

Ramgarh is Shekhawati’s planned-grid town, laid out deliberately where most of its neighbours grew organically.

The plan is still legible on the ground: a straight main street in the miniature-Pink-City manner, with the town’s water jewel at its edge, the merchant-built lake known as Sethani ka Johra, the best single monument of the region’s wells-and-tanks heritage. The naming detail matters for bookings: like Fatehpur, Ramgarh carries the Shekhawati suffix to separate it from India’s other Ramgarhs, so use the full name for trains and buses. Visitors consistently report very low tourism, which is exactly why the town rewards the slow walk: painted gates, working lanes and no crowd to share them with.
