Jaipur is Shekhawati’s main gateway: Mandawa lies roughly 170 to 180 kilometres north, a 3.5 to 4.5 hour drive per mapping services, with train and bus alternatives reaching the belt at Sikar and Jhunjhunu.
Jaipur is the most common gateway to Shekhawati, and the route approach from there offers three ways in.
- By road, the drive to Mandawa takes 3-4 hours, standard taxi pattern.
- The train: the Sikar and Jhunjhunu stations, handled by the arrival tradition.
- The loop: the Jaipur-Mandawa-Bikaner circuit, which works as a multi-city setup route.
Three ways in, each with a clear profile. By car or taxi, the drive is straightforward highway, and it is the only option that serves the small towns directly. By train, Sikar and Jhunjhunu are the belt’s two junctions, Sikar the stronger on the Jaipur side, with local transport onward to the painted towns. By bus, the network is frequent and cheap on the trunk corridors, ordinary rather than tourist in comfort. The classic arrangement is the loop: Jaipur in, Mandawa and the towns, onward to Bikaner, which turns the transfer days into itinerary rather than overhead.
