The Sam road is a straight shot west, which makes it Jaisalmer’s easiest day to plan: everything lines up in order.
The sequence
- Depart 9-10 am and stop first at the Jaisalmer War Museum, 10 km out — an hour, free.
- Akal Wood Fossil Park at km 18 — 30-45 minutes among the Jurassic logs.
- Kanoi or the village belt for a craft stop and chai; book this in advance through your driver or a safari operator.
- Lunch at camp or push through; the sunset window at Sam runs roughly 90 minutes before dusk.
- Camp overnight or ride back — the road is fully paved and about 45 minutes home.
