Jodhpur is a backpacker city — compact, walkable, cheap to eat in — and its hostel stock is accordingly good: old-city locations, rooftop common areas with fort views, and dorm beds at prices that make long stays easy. These are the names that keep surfacing.

The names travellers trade

Beyond the named three, the old city holds a thick layer of budget rooms in the ₹500–1,000 band (per local listing data) — family-run guesthouses that don’t market but fill on word of mouth and walk-ins.

Questions worth asking

Old city or new city for a hostel stay?

Old city, for almost everyone — the lanes, the fort road, the market and the food circuit are the reason you’re here, and the hostels cluster accordingly. New-city hostels exist but you’ll be auto-ing everywhere.

How early do they fill?

December–January fills the good dorms days ahead; the rest of the year walk-ins usually work. Festival weeks (Holi, the autumn festivals) behave like peak season.
