How much does a day in Jodhpur cost? The honest answer has three tiers, and the spread between them is one of the widest in Indian travel: a backpacker does the city on pocket change, a mid-range traveller lives very well, and the palace-hotel tier exists in its own economy. Here’s the planning math for each.

The three tiers, per person per day

Tier Stay Food Transport Sights Daily band
Backpacker Hostel dorm ₹350–600 Street food & thali counters ₹250–450 Autos ₹40/hop; buses ₹30 ₹0–200 (markets are free; concession tickets) ~₹800–1,500
Mid-range Heritage hotel ₹1,500–3,500 Restaurant meals ₹400–800 ×2 App cabs + occasional day-hire Fort ₹100–200 + one paid experience ~₹3,000–6,000
Luxury RAAS tier / palace ₹8,000–25,000+ Rooftop & hotel dining ₹1,500–3,000 Car with driver Private guides, spa, zipline ~₹12,000–30,000+

Foreign visitors’ monument tickets run higher (Mehrangarh approx ₹600–700) — budget that into the mid and luxury tiers.

Where the money goes (and doesn’t)

Jodhpur’s budget shape is unusual: sightseeing is nearly free (the fort is the big ticket; the lanes, stepwell, markets and temples cost nothing), while experiences — the desert safari, the cooking class, the horse ride — carry real prices. Food is cheap everywhere outside hotel dining rooms. That means the budget lever you actually control is the room: it’s the line that decides which tier you’re in, more than anything you’ll eat or see.

Two real reference points

Reported backpacker runs through Jodhpur have landed around ₹1,000–1,400/day (guesthouse ₹350, bus ₹30, street-food days ₹150–400) — uncomfortable-adjacent but real. India-wide mid-range travellers should expect the ₹4,500–7,000 band to apply comfortably here, since Jodhpur prices below Jaipur’s and far below Udaipur’s lake-view premiums.

Questions worth asking

What’s the one splurge worth making?

A night in a fort-view heritage room (mid-tier, ₹2,500–4,000) — it converts the whole trip’s photos and memory for the price of two rooftop dinners.

Where do budgets blow up?

Winter rates (December doubles rooms), day-trip taxis (Osian/Ranakpur runs ₹2,500–3,500/day), and shopping you didn’t plan — the bazaars are engineered for the unplanned carpet.

Cash or card?

UPI (QR payments) works nearly everywhere, but keep ₹1,000–2,000 cash for autos, stalls and tips — see our money guide.
