Last updated: September 2026 · Method: guidance from India’s standard electrical specification (stable for decades). One of the few guides that doesn’t age.

India runs on 230V, 50Hz electricity with Type C/D/M sockets — and Jodhpur’s heritage buildings add their own variables (old wiring, few sockets, occasional cuts). This guide is the plug-and-power briefing.

The sockets

The voltage reality

230V/50Hz; most modern chargers (phones, laptops, camera batteries) are 100–240V dual-rated and need only the plug adapter, not a converter. Check your device’s label for “100–240V”; high-wattage appliances (hair dryers, straighteners) from 110V countries need a converter or will cook.

Questions worth asking

Do I need a voltage converter?

Only for 110V-only appliances, most travellers need nothing but the adapter. The label check takes ten seconds and prevents a melted hair dryer.
