The Mandor Express is Jodhpur’s veteran Delhi connection — one of the classic overnight services that has carried the city’s traffic to the capital for decades. Named for Mandore itself, it’s the train that most Jodhpur families have a story about. This guide covers the experience and the booking logic (the IRCTC guide handles the paperwork).
The service
An overnight between Jodhpur Junction and Delhi (the route comparison holds: the flight is faster, the train is cheaper and arrives at dawn). Sleeper and AC classes; the classic Indian overnight experience, see the sleeper survival guide for the class details and the station guide for the departure.
Why this train specifically
- The arrival math: night departure, morning Delhi, a hotel night saved and a full day in the capital.
- The name: Mandore is the dynasty’s old capital, the train carries the region’s history in its title (see the timeline).
- The reliability of familiarity: decades of service mean the crew, the catering stops and the rhythms are known quantities.
Questions worth asking
Sleeper or 3AC on this run?
3AC for the first-timer (bedding included, quieter, securer); sleeper for the full immersion, the survival guide argues both.
Timings?
They’ve shifted across revisions, check IRCTC/NTES for the current schedule rather than any printed list (ours included).
