Dundlod is a compact fort town about 15 kilometres from Nawalgarh, known for its fort hotel and for the Marwari horse safaris that set out from its stables.
Dundlod is a compact Shekhawati town built around its fort, a variant on the town approach that guides Mandawa.
- The fort doubles as a palace stay, the region’s clearest example of the heritage pattern.
- The horses: Marwari-horse safaris, the equine branch of the animal-safari tradition.
- The havelis: painted courtyards around the fort square.
The town divides into three things worth your time. The fort itself doubles as a palace stay, the region’s clearest case of a monument kept alive by occupancy. The stables breed and ride the Marwari horse, Rajasthan’s native breed marked by its inward-curving ears, with morning safaris into the surrounding countryside for confident riders. And the lanes around the fort square hold painted haveli courtyards of the standard belt pattern, quieter than Mandawa’s and mostly reached by asking for the keyholder. Half a day covers all three comfortably.
