Winter afternoons in Shekhawati belong to the haveli rooftops: from roughly three to five o’clock the low sun warms the terraces and reads the jharokha skyline at its best.
This post covers the best hour, the view, and the rooftop habits we recommend elsewhere.
- The hour: the 3-to-5 winter window.
- The view: the jharokha skyline described in our balcony post.
- The Bikaner parallel: the same pleasure one belt over.
The habit fits the winter day’s real shape. December and January mornings are fog-bound until mid-morning, midday is for the shaded courtyards, and the terrace hour is the reward at the end: warm stone, town views over a skyline of overhanging balconies and chhatris, and light that finally flatters the facades again after the flat noon. Heritage hotels make the ritual easy, since their roofs and rampart terraces are the natural venues, and tea rather than dinner is the standard order before the early winter dark. Bikaner runs the same pleasure one belt over, which is why our terrace-mornings post there reads as this one’s companion.
