The shape of a Marwari wedding

Traditional Marwari weddings run multiple days and functions; commonly: Ganpati Sthapana (the invocation), Mayian/Bhatwan (the oil-and-turmeric rituals at both homes), Mehendi and Sangeet (henna night and the music-and-dance night), Pithi Dastoor, the Baraat (the groom’s procession), the wedding ceremony itself (often late night, auspicious-hour timing set by astrologers), and the farewell Vidaai. Travellers are usually invited to Sangeet and the wedding day, attend what you’re invited to, and never arrive uninvited to private rituals.

Questions worth asking

Can I bring a plus-one?

Only if the invitation says so; Indian weddings count guests precisely for catering. Ask your host; the answer arrives kindly but definitively.

What if I don’t eat much spicy food or I’m vegetarian?

Marwari wedding catering is largely vegetarian by default and famously abundant, the thali tradition means there’s always something plain beside something fiery. State allergies early; hosts solve everything else.
