Last updated: October 2026 · Method: desk research — Pali’s position from regional geography and our route research; distances approx by road.
Pali, 70-odd km southeast of Jodhpur, is the workhorse town of the region — the textile-and-trade centre on the road to Sardar Samand, Rohet and the Aravalli south. Not a sight in itself so much as the south’s hub: a place whose markets, temples and roadside food reward the traveller who’s already heading past it.
What Pali is
The eponymous headquarters of the henna-and-textile district, a commercial town whose cotton and blending mills supply the trade that Jodhpur’s bazaars retail. For travellers it’s the natural lunch-and-market stop on the southern loop: pair it with Sojat’s henna economy for a commodities-themed day, or with the lake palaces for the classic south circuit.
The visit
- Distance: ~70 km, 1.5 hours by road (the Sardar Samand route passes through the district).
- What you’ll find: working textile markets, the district’s temples, and honest roadside eating, dhaba standards, apply the safety rules.
- Textile buying: unbleached and blended cloth at trade-adjacent prices (approx, negotiated); the craft-work version lives at Salawas and Balotra.
