Last updated: October 2026 · Method: desk research — Dechu’s position from our Osian-route research (the Jaisalmer highway’s dune belt); camp offerings shift — verify current properties.
Dechu is the Jaisalmer road’s quieter dune belt, the stretch beyond Osian where the luxury desert camps cluster away from Osian’s day-trip crowds and Jaisalmer’s tour-bus volume. For travellers who want the dune-camp night with more sand per neighbour, this is the middle option nobody told you about.
What Dechu is
A small desert station on the NH toward Jaisalmer whose surrounding dunes host a belt of tented camps; the same format as Osian’s (camel/jeep safari, folk dinner, stars) but positioned for the traveller splitting the Jodhpur–Jaisalmer drive with a dune night in between. The camps run the tiers from standard to genuine-luxury (approx ₹3,000–15,000+ per person by season; verify current properties, the belt changes).
The visit
- Distance: ~85–90 km northwest of Jodhpur, on the Jaisalmer road.
- The formula: arrive by late afternoon, dune sunset (the dunes comparison sets expectations), camp evening, desert dawn, onward, the drive already half-done.
- Choosing a camp: recent reviews over brochure photography; the camping guide’s quality checklist applies belt-wide.
