Fateh Sagar is Udaipur’s second lake — first dammed in 1678, washed away and rebuilt in 1889 (the Fateh Singh era, hence the name) north of the old city, ringed by the hills and crossed by the wide walkable causeway. It is the local Udaipur’s evening: the promenade, the street food, and the boat to the island garden. Where Pichola is for visitors, Fateh Sagar is where the city goes.
Quick facts

What to do there
- The causeway walk; the road and promenade between the lake’s arms; the city’s evening constitutional.
- Nehru Garden; the island park by boat; a picnic-tier stop, skippable on short trips.
- The food carts; corn, chai and the snack counters along the road; the street-drinks logic transfers.
- The observatory; the solar observatory island hosts public viewing sessions on scheduled days; verify current schedule if astronomy is your thing (the state’s observatory tradition runs deep (Jaipur’s Jantar Mantar is the historic example)).
Pairing it
The Fatehsagar-belt hotels put you walkable; the 2-day plan’s second evening slots here when the old city feels done. Monsoon and post-monsoon are the lake’s best light (the season logic).
