Long-stay travellers and repeat outfits meet the same wall: laundry. Jodhpur’s options — hotel service, local dhobi services, laundromats and self-service — cover every budget and urgency. Here’s the practical map.

The options
- Hotel laundry: convenient, per-piece pricing, and the most expensive per garment (approx ₹30–100 per piece by type, confirm the rate card before handing over delicates; heritage properties’ stone-wall drying can stretch turnaround).
- Local laundry/dhobi services: the neighbourhood economy, per-kilo or per-piece pricing far below hotel rates, with 1–2 day turnarounds. The old city’s services collect and deliver; ask your guesthouse for “the dhobi”.
- Self-service laundromats: the newer option, washing machines and dryers in the new-city commercial areas, coin/card operated, pay-per-cycle (approx ₹100–300/cycle by machine size). The choose-your-own-adventure for delicates and quick needs.
- The sink method: quick-dry travel clothes (see the packing guide) and an overnight balcony line, the backpacker standard, and in Jodhpur’s dry air, clothes genuinely dry overnight most of the year.
Practical notes
- Bandhani and dyed textiles need cold, gentle handling, the textile guide’s craft fades in hot washes. Hand-wash first washes.
- Count pieces at both handovers; the hotel laundry slip and the dhobi’s chit are your records.
- Monsoon caveat: outdoor drying is unreliable in the rains (see the monsoon guide), the laundromat dryers earn their keep in August.
Questions worth asking
How do solo travellers handle it?
The sink method for dailies, the dhobi for the weekly load, the combo most long-stayers converge on (see the nomad guide for the living layer).
