What happens inside a single safari shift, food included, is governed by the shift timing.

The shape of a shift is worth knowing in advance. You clear the gate at the start of the slot, and roughly three and a half hours later you are back through it, with the middle hours spent holding at sightings, waiting at waterholes and moving between zones. There is no restaurant, kiosk or toilet stop inside, and no mid-shift exit and re-entry, so the vehicle you board is your base for the whole shift.

Food strategy follows the rules: sealed water bottles are fine, but open food and loose snacks are discouraged because litter changes animal behaviour and the enforcement is strict. Eat a real meal before the shift, carry a sealed snack and a fruit if you need one, and pack the wrappers back out. The packing list covers the rest of what a no-facilities shift demands, from sun cover to tissue and hand sanitiser.
