Samode is the shekhawati-style painted haveli-fort an hour from Jaipur — frescoed halls, a courtyard village, and the hill-top fort above it. It is the closest thing to a Shekhawati preview without the full desert drive.

The logistics
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Drive | ~1 hr northwest of Jaipur |
| Visiting | The fort-palace is a heritage hotel — day/lunch access sold to non-guests (confirm current package); the village havelis wander free |
| Time needed | Half-day with the drive each way |
What you are visiting
- The painted halls — the Shekhawati fresco tradition (the region comparison explains what you’re seeing) at its most accessible.
- The fort above the village — the ruin-climb with the painted plains below; the lesser-fort logic applies.
- The village — bangle-makers and the haveli lanes; photograph by permission (the etiquette rule).
The verdict
A gentle, pretty half-day — best for art-and-architecture travellers and as the taster that decides whether the full Shekhawati circuit goes on the next trip. If the day needs spectacle, the chooser points to Abhaneri instead.
