📄 Image slot — a compact ancient stone temple covered in fine carving.
Jagat’s Ambika Mata temple is a scholar’s favourite and a tourist afterthought, a compact 9th-10th century temple whose walls carry some of the finest niche carving in the region.
The visit
- What it is: a living village temple of the goddess, celebrated for its sculptural detail; the niche figures and the ceiling work are the draw.
- Getting there: roughly an hour-plus southeast of Udaipur by road; rural roads, minimal signage, a driver who knows the area is the practical way.
- Pairing: it fits a day loop with the tribal-belt country, the Bhil art guide gives the region its context.
Honest note: nothing else is here, the temple is the trip; for the history-minded it is worth every kilometre.
